Happy New Year!

I wish each and every one of you a blessed, spiritually rewarding New Year. My prayer is that 2009 will be a Jesus year! (That's the way Beth worded it on the LPM blog.) Here are a few of the ways I hope to do that.

Memorize more scripture (Memorize at least 2 Bible verses each month - as challenged by Beth)
Be more like Jesus (Phil. 2:5....Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus...)
Extend more mercy (God has graced me with so much mercy, I want to extend that to others.)

I want to draw closer to Jesus this year and I pray that you do, too. If you are willing to take the challenge and let this be a Jesus year, let me know by making a comment on this post. I will be praying for you and each of us as we attempt to draw near to God.

Love,
Janet

Happy Christmas Week

John 1:14...."The Word became flesh and dwelt among us....."

What an awesome thought. My mind is totally "wrapped" up in it!

Merry CHRISTmas!!

How does it sneak up every year?

DECEMBER 25 is always Christmas Day on the December calendar. It's the same every year.

THEN HOW DOES IT SNEAK UP ON ME EVERY TIME????????

All I can say is.....

I've got cards to write,

presents to buy,

presents to wrap,

(After giving into the pressure of a 14 year old, we, or should I say "she" finally got the decorations put up, just in time to take them down in a couple of weeks!)

crafts to make,

holiday events to attend,

and the list goes on and on.........

I'm so glad that if I don't get everything done, I know Jesus will still love me!

~Princess~

According to I Peter 2:9 and several other verses, we who belong to Christ are royalty! I've been working through the "Esther" Bible study work book by Beth Moore and I've been enchanted with the discoveries I'm making. Check out this serendipitous epiphany from Beth's work book, page 97:

"Beloved, absorb this with your whole heart. You are royalty. Not figurative royalty. Not just spiritual royalty. You are in the most literal sense possible the daughter of the universe's King. You have royal blood in a way that even Esther did not. The crimson blood line of Christ flows through your veins."

If that doesn't make your tiara sparkle, I don't know what would. I've been trying to carry myself a little more "regally" ever since absorbing this thought. We receive a royal heritage when we trust Christ as our Savior. Let's live accordingly!!

Times of Refreshing

I am so thankful to God for His forgiveness. It amazes me how I can bend my knee to Him first thing in the morning and then, by lunch time, already have sinned, big time! If it weren't for His mercy and loving kindness that leads me to repentance, I don't know where I would be. I found this passage in Acts 3:19-20 that says it all for me.

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out; (PTL!) that times of refreshing may come from the Lord and that He may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you, even Jesus."

Hallelujah.......Jesus has been appointed for me so that times of refreshing may come................. and they do!

This pic reminds me of my oldest sister!

This picture was sent to me in an e-mail and, for some reason, it reminds me of my sister, Pam. I'm not sure why. I guess I've just been thinking about her lately. October always has a way of bringing many memories of Pam. For one reason, October is breast cancer awareness month and I always think of her. Another reason is that she passed in October. It was 6 years ago this month that she went to be with Jesus in heaven. Sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday.

I miss her but I know I will see her again someday. I'm thankful to the Lord that he has given us that promise. In the meantime, I will always remember Pam as the sweet, loving, godly woman who once looked like this little girl. How grateful she was to God for His goodness to her. She was so amazed at God's grace toward her. She spoke of it often, especially near the end. Let's all remember how much God loves us and how he sacrificed His Only Son for us. One way we can show our love to God is by loving others, so make sure to tell someone today that you love them.....better yet, show them!

Bless the Lord, O My Soul!

I just can't praise the Lord enough for all he is and does. He is so good to me. Praises and blessings belong to the Lord. He is worthy. Here are some of my favorite "praise" verses in the bible. I like to use praise scriptures whenever I am feeling discouraged or overwhelmed. Here are some great ones.

"O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth." Psalm 8:1

"Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits." Psalm 103:1-2

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!" Psalm 150:6

I guess I really like the Psalms. What about you? What are some of your favorite "praise" verses? Let me know!

THE BIG TEN!

I found these "10 Commandments for Bloggers" through another person's blog and thought it was really enlightening. However, I think I've already broken several of these commandments! (Since I stole this blog from another blogger, I'm especially guilty of #8. Yikes!)

1 You shall not put your blog before your integrity.
2 You shall not make an idol of your blog!
3 You shall not misuse your screen name by using your anonymity to sin.
4 Remember the Sabbath day by taking one day off a week from your blog.
5 Honor your fellow-bloggers above yourselves. Do not give undue significance to their mistakes.
6 You shall not murder a fellow-bloggers honor, reputation or feelings.
7 You shall not use the web to commit or permit adultery in your mind.
8 You shall not steal another blogger's content.
9 You shall not give false testimony against your fellow-blogger.
10 You shall not covet your neighbor's blog ranking. Be content with your own content!!

More Blessed to Give....

I don't know about you, but yesterday's sermon really stirred up some strong feelings in me and they weren't necessarily all good. Yikes! Sometimes it's hard to love those who aren't being loving towards us. If I could sum up his main theme from the sermon yesterday it would be like this:

"At times, we are not going to be the receiver of love the way we’d like to be. BUT, God didn’t call us to receive love from one another. God called us to GIVE love to one another. The principle God wants us to visualize for ourselves is one of “giving ourselves away,” because, that’s the job of a servant."

O.U.C.H!

It's hard to think about being more concerned with GIVING love than receiving it! Well, I decided to give it a try this morning. I GAVE love to someone today and I found it to be quite rewarding. Try it this week. Try giving love away - especially to someone who isn't acting very loving. Let me know what happens.......

Challenge

I'm challenging all married couples (or those who may marry in the future) to take The LOVE DARE! It's a 40-day challenge to strengthen our relationships with those closest to us. It has a tip for each day on how to express love to someone else. There are helpful hints on how to keep love alive or rekindle love or just improve on an already good love story. I have several copies of the book. I am willing to give a copy to anyone who responds to this post and says they are brave enough to take the LOVE DARE CHALLENGE......so, the gauntlet has been laid....is anyone out there brave enough to pick it up? Let me know. We can all take the dare together and learn how to grow in our love relationships!

P.S....This book comes out in conjunction with the movie: "FIREPROOF" which opens in theatres on Sept. 26. I also challenge everyone to go see the movie. If you'd like to purchase a ticket for just $5, let me know. I have vouchers that allow you to see this movie at any theatre where it's playing in the first 2 weeks that it opens. We are taking a group on Friday evening, Sept. 26, so just let me know if you are interested. Hope to see you soon!

GOD IS SO GOOD!

"Oh, taste & see that the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:8)
"The Lord is good. A refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him." (Nah. 1:7)
I have experienced these two verses in the last couple of days. God is guiding me and taking care of me and watching out over me and my family. If you get a chance, check out the song: "Watch Over Me" by Aaron Shust. It's a great song (all of his songs are great!) and it expresses exactly how I feel.

I can say, along with the Psalmist, He indeed is good. Thank You, Lord! He woke me up in the middle of the night, just to let me know He cares for me and is in control of my life. That makes me want to surrender even more to Him. He is so trustworthy. He can be trusted. He is faithful, even when we aren't. Oh, praise His name.....Lord, You are good!!

Remembering....

Today we remember the tragedy of 9/11/01. In some ways it doesn't seem like it was 7 years ago. In other ways, it seems like a life-time ago. What I remember about that day is this: people flocked to the church to pray! They were distraught, they didn't know what to do. They knew they wanted to pray and people just came together in an unorganized prayer meeting to lift up our nation, the grieving, the hurt, the lost, the rescue workers and fire fighters, and even to pray for our enemies. In the days that followed 9/11 there were many more spontaneous prayer meetings that just sprang up. Church attendance was also higher. I think people wanted to know what to do to get right with God. How I pray that people will seek Him every day of their lives. Let's remember that God sacrificed his one and only Son so that we could have eternal life. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Dorla - are you out there?

I met a new friend at the LPL event in San Antonio, Texas. Her name is Dorla. I sat next to her on Friday night at the Alamodome. She has such an engaging and genuine personality. When we got ready to leave on Saturday afternoon, I saw her again briefly and gave her my blog address. We didn't have time to talk very long because Sue and I had to get back to our hotel and check out. We were running late and I feel bad that I didn't get Dorla's blog address or e-mail. So, Dorla, are you out there? I'd really like to chat with you! If you read this, please leave a comment on this post or e-mail me.....would love to visit with you via the web. Hope you get this message!

Athsma Update....

I was supposed to go to the doctor today, but it looks like it will be a couple of weeks before I go back. I need to have another test done called a "Pulmonary Function Test." I think it measures lung capacity. Anyway, I get that done on Monday, the 8th. Then, after the pulmonary specialist gets those test results and the blood test results, I will go back to him at the end of September.

In the meantime, the inhaler and steroids seem to be helping....at least the coughing fits seem fewer and milder. Alas, we shall see in time! I just wanted to let you know what was going on so you didn't wonder!! LOL

Who would have guessed????

After struggling for about 13 years with a daily cough, I finally took a good friend's advice (thanks, hiker-mama) and went to a pulmonary specialist. Turns out, I may have asthma! All these years I've been struggling and I could have been doing something about it! Can you believe it?

I go today to have tests done to see what is bringing on the asthma attacks which I always called "coughing attacks" but I guess it has more to do with the bronchial tubes than the throat itself.

Live and learn.....I always thought this was what I called a "familial" cough because my sister coughs and my mother coughs. Good news - mom and sis - we may have found the culprit. I'll let you know!

I'll be back in a few days to keep you informed....I'm sure everyone is on pins & needles to find out - ha!

What An Incredible Weekend!

It was amazing...joining thousands of women in worship to our "Lone Star" - JESUS! We learned so much from our Bible study teacher, Beth Moore. She's in the middle with the girl on her lap. I'm two people over to the right (with the pink cowgirl hat). My Siesta Sue is two people over to the left with her matching pink hat! Aren't we just so TEXAN! Anyway, it was an amazing time - as we had a head on collision with worship and Bible study - YEEHAW! We missed all you siestas who weren't able to be with us but we cherish the times when we will all be together again someday. I leave you with a thought that has been going 'round and 'round in my head since Saturday. "You are an heiress to the King of kings! You have a royal and beautiful inheritance. The King's Son is your double-portion and, through Him, you are God's inheritance, as well." If that thought don't light your fire, then ya'lls wood is wet!! ;>)

Try to figure out the following:

I'm in SA with my BFF, HM. We are going to the LPL event to see our BFF, BS teacher, BM. We are missing our other BFF, MW :(

Anyone who can properly discipher the above message is going to get an extra special gift from her BFF's when they get back from SA! And why are we doing this?.......BWC!!

I'M BACK!

Well, the "blogging fast" is over and I learned a few things about myself.

1) Blogging had not quite become an idol to me, but I'm glad I took a break so I could find that out.

2) God is so good. He satisfies my every longing and desire! I don't want anything to come between Him and me.

3) My friends are the best....they are supportive & sweet to me.....of course, I already knew that before!

I'll end this blog with one of my favorite scriptures:
Philippians 3:10:
"That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering, being made conformable unto His death."

"Siesta" or should I say "Fast" ?????

I'm taking a little "siesta" (no pun intended) from blogging for a while. Or, maybe I should call it a fast? After doing this study: "No Other Gods" I'm experimenting to make sure blogging hasn't become a "god" to me. I am going to "fast" from blogging for awhile and try to figure out some kind of balance where I'm not thinking about when I can get my next blog fix!!!!!!!

P.S....You may as well not leave any comments on this blog because I won't be checking them for a while. Thanks for understanding!!

Are you Right-Brained or Left-Brained?

I took a test and here are my results, which kind of surprised me because I always thought I was more right-brained than left-brained.

47% Right-brained, 52% Left-Brained, 42% Auditory Learner, 57% Visual Learner

Let me know what you think of the following synopsis of me.

"You are a well-rounded person, distinctly individualistic and artistic, an active and multidimensional learner. At the same time, you are logical and disciplined, can operate well within an organization, and are sensitive towards others without losing objectivity. You are organized and goal-directed. Although a "thinking" individual, you "take in" entire situations readily and can act on intuition.

You sometimes tend to vacillate in your learning styles. Learning might take you longer than someone of equal intellect, but you will tend to be more thorough and retain the material longer than those other individuals. You will alternate between logic and impulse. This vacillation will not normally be intentional or deliberate, so you may experience anxiety in situations where you are not certain which aspect of yourself will be called on.

With a slight preference for visual processing, you tend to be encompassing in your perceptions, process along multidimensional paths and be active in your attacking of situations or learning.
Overall, you should feel content with your life and yourself. You are, perhaps, a little too critical of yourself -- and of others -- while maintaining an "openness" which tempers that tendency. Indecisiveness is a problem and your creativity may not be in keeping with your potential. Being a pragmatist, you downplay this aspect of yourself and focus on the more immediate, obvious and the more functional."

If you want to take the test go to this website: mindmedia.com/braintest.html

Thankful Thursday

Siesta Sue (hiker-mama) has been so upbeat lately, she's inspired me to be in a thankful mood. Her blogs are always so spiritual and uplifting that I thought I would try to be like her! :0)

So, here goes:
Ever since our last NOG meeting, I've felt convicted to be a more positive person. Siesta Janel (miss wanderlust) encouraged me to be grateful, even for the little things. She reminded us to concentrate on the things we can be thankful for, even in the midst of the "bad" times.
She's right.
Eph. 4:29 says:
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

The rest of chapter 4 is also excellent, challenging us to be kind, compassionate and forgiving.
Here are 10 things I am thankful for this Thursday:
grace
future hope & plans God has for us
the fact that I get to impact my grandson in godly ways
the love of Christ
the love of family & the family of God
friends who are sooooooooo supportive and encouraging
forgiveness
the Word of God
laughter
hard times

Have a thankful Thursday!

Challenge!

Okay, so here's the challenge. Find or take the worst possible picture of yourself and post it on your blog. I didn't have any make up on - my hair is in a pony tail (it's totally confused and angry!!) and obviously I have a lot of wrinkles.....I am developing more and more wrinkles every day (if you are a Mom to teenage and post-teenage girls, you'll know why!!!). Have fun with it. If any of my close siesta's need any ammo, I have a few "non-flattering" pictures of us!! LOL :0) BTW, this exercise always helps me if I'm feeling a bit uppity or selfish. I just take a look at a few of these photos, and all pride goes out the door!!!!

Family....What A Blessing!

Last weekend we made our way to the Lake of the Ozarks for the annual "Cline Family Reunion." There were 34 of us this year. Every child, grandchild and great grandchild made it! My husband's parents are in white. Their 4 children (and families) are each in a different color. We are the ones in pink. I love the fact that my husband and grandson weren't afraid to wear the hot-pink color. Our sister-in-love got us all t-shirts. They say: "Cline Family - Celebrating 60 years - 1948-2008." I know my husband's parents appreciated us celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in this way. We had a great time together....swimming, boating, playing basketball and other games, etc., but the best part, for me, was the worship service on Sunday morning. Mark's Dad (or Grandad, as the kids call him) started us off with opening comments and prayer, then I led the family in some praise & worship music. (Boy, do they sound great when they sing.) Our middle daughter gave her testimony of being a missionary intern this summer. Our niece sang a beautiful song (I cried all the way through it!) and then my husband's brother, who is also a Pastor, preached a terrific sermon. He had 2 points: 1) Remember who you are.....you are a Christian and you are a Cline. 2) When you fall, get back up! I am so fortunate to have a godly family, both on my husband's side and my side. What a privilege.....what a blessing!

Thought for the Day!

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring.
He sends you a sunrise every morning & a sunset every evening.
Face it, friend - He is crazy about you!

What does it mean?

It just occured to me that some people may not know what "Serendipity Epiphanies" means, so I am copying the definitions of the two words in my blog name to give you a little insight.

Serendipity: An unsought, unintended, or unexpected discovery or occurrence, made by accident or surprise.

Epiphany (feeling): the sudden realization or comprehension of the essence or meaning of something.

Some people blog every day, some people blog every week, I blog when I stumble onto a "surprise revelation!" (in laymen's terms: when a light bulb goes on over my head! :)

28 = Joy!

Yesterday, my husband and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. It seems impossible that it was 28 years ago when we started this journey called marriage. Sometimes I think to myself: "What happened to that young bride?"

I'll tell you what happened - she grew up (okay, she got older!) Seriously, though, when I think about the journey of the past 28 years I have lots of fond memories and realize that the rewarding times far out-weigh the hard times.

So, here's to all you brides and future brides out there - the journey is full of joy, mixed with a little bit of pain, but rewarding and fulfilling, especially when you go with God!

(P.S...If you want a really cool date night, try what we did. We called it a "Progressive Dinner Date." We started at one restaurant and had an appetizer (we split one). Then we headed to another restaurant and had our main course (again, we split one). Lastly, we had our dessert at a different restaurant. It was a lot of fun!)

VBS

Our Vacation Bible School for 2008 will end today. I'm always a little sad when it ends (and a lot tired!) We had a record crowd at our Family Night. I pray that all of these families will be drawn closer to Christ as a result of this wonderful blessing we call VBS.

The other day I was reflecting on past Vacation Bible Schools and I realized I have been a VBS director for over 15 years now. What an incredible calling to watch children learn God's word. Many lives have begun their journey of following Christ as a result of VBS. My middle daughter came to Christ at Vacation Bible School many years ago. Others have become Christ followers, as well. This year, 15 children at our church made the decision to follow Christ. For me, that's what it is all about.

I'm so exhausted that I can't even sleep. I'm writing this post at 3:30 in the morning. I'm going to be tired later today, but it will be a good tired. When we take all the decorations down from this year's VBS, I will already be thinking about next year!

He loves me!!!

Tonight, my 4 year old grandson, Jake, saw that I was about to get on the computer. He's figured out that I "say" things on my "blog" so he said: "Nana, tell them I love you."

I tell you what - he is the smartest, cutest, most lovable character I have ever known.

Well, Jake - Nana loves you, too~

Good night....and sweet dreams!

Anyone else as excited as I am about the Esther Bible study by Beth Moore coming out soon? I can hardly wait!! Can't believe it's still 4 months away....oh, well, I'm sure it will be worth the wait. I'm praying that Beth makes her deadline so that we can have the bible study in hand some time in November. Can't wait for fall!!!

Summer Bible Study

I am really enjoying the Bible Study: "No Other gods," by Kelly Minter. Her insights are really hitting home. Ouch!!

Are any other siesta's out there having a hard time narrowing their "gods" to just one?????

We are getting fortified through The Word. I just keep repeating Jude 1:24-25 to myself, over and over.

Also, another good verse is Psalm 86:11 (which is the Lifeway VBS theme verse this year.) It's one of my favorites: "Teach me Your ways, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth. Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name."

Memorizing scripture is a great way to renew our minds.

Good night for now! Sweet dreams!!

My First Blog

It's funny how a whole world can exist out here in "cyber-space" and while I've been reading blogs for a while I'm just now entering into this exciting, fun, new experience of writing blogs.....let me know how I do! So for now, "Nanikins" (what my 4 year old grandson calls me) is signing off!
